During the 'Yellow Vest' protests in France in 2018, police forces cracked down with deafening rubber bullets fired from LBD weapons (Lanceur de Balles de Défense). Many demonstrators were left with life-threatening injuries. In the aftermath, French prosecutors opened more than 200 investigations into police violence. Dossier 137 is a fictional account inspired by one such case. For Stéphanie Bertrand of the IGPN (the Inspection Générale de la Police Nationale), it initially seems like just another file, until the investigation takes an unexpected turn. Fearless leading actress Léa Drucker anchors this taut, uncompromising procedural drama from director Dominik Moll and his long-time co-writer Gilles Marchand. As bold and inventive as their protagonist, the duo previously struck gold with the César-winning The Night of the 12th (2022). At this year's festival, Drucker also shines in L'intérêt d'Adam, which likewise had its world premiere in Cannes.
