Petra von Kant is a successful fashion designer. Some time ago, she divorced the husband she no longer loved. Until recently, she has been in a fairly satisfactory S & M relationship with her secretary Marlene, whom she shares a luxury apartment with. When Petra meets young and beautiful working-class model Karin Thimm and falls in love with her, things become far more complicated.. She promises Karin a career as a fashion model in order to bind her to her, but Karin is too clever for Petra to find enduring happiness. Karin takes considerable liberties, with men too, and finally returns to her husband when he surprisingly comes to Europe from Australia. Petra, who had emotionally invested a great deal in the relationship, responds with despair and even hysteria. Six months later: it is Petra's birthday and she longingly waits for a sign from Karin.
