A beautifully photographed film set in the Chinese countryside. Five girls ar,J about to be married off. For the five girls who are horrified to have to say farewell to their relatively carefree and playful youth, the wedding is be dreaded. They are to be married off to aged or ill men and basically they will become slaves to the family of their future husbands. Much of the charm r.f the film is thanks to the naturalistic acting of the five young protagonists and the lyrical portrayal of the arcadian countryside.
