Before the Rise of Premonition

In recent years, the independent short film has also taken a non-traditional approach to narrative, telescoping into a few minutes a narrative that viewers might expect to see developed at greater length. In Ernest Marrero and Susan Kouguell's Before the Rise of Premonition (1985), parents play out their disintegrating relationship before their children. The filmmakers use stylized setting and lighting to heighten the film's erotic tension, skilfully lending ambiguity to the narrative.
