Milo Thatch is a terrifyingly enthusiastic young museum scholar who wears giant circular specs and talks with a breakneck alacrity. Milo tends the boiler room of a Smithsonian-like museum, but he's also an accomplished linguist and he's inherited the family obsession with Atlantis. Milo's grandfather was an explorer looking for Atlantis who knew where to discover the location of the lost city - in a hidden journal. After a visit from the femme fatale-ish Helga Sinclair who represents eccentric billionaire Preston Whitmore, Milo's daydreams begin to materialize. With the help of Preston, the lost journal is recovered, providing new clues to Atlantis's whereabouts. Milo joins a group of rag-tag explorers in the search for the city.
