Francis Ford Coppola

Apocalypse Now

147' - 1979 - Mystery, War, Drama - Dialogue: Vietnamese, French, English
Director: Francis Ford Coppola Composer: Francis Ford Coppola, Carmine Coppola With: Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall
When Coppola bought the script of Apocalypse Now, based on sîtuations and characters from Heart of Darkness, in 1970, he set himself a goal : 'to make a broad, spectacular film of epic action-adventure scale that however, is also rich in theme and a phi!osophical inquiry into the mythology of war and the human condition.' Within these formidable objectives, Coppola's production, neither politically-based nor documentary in design, has achieved a brooding and ominous journey into darkness. Today it still remains the most impressive film about Vietnam, a frightening journey into the mystique of war.
