Three women are in a hospital expecting babies. This film depicts their memories of the events that shaped their lives. Angela recalls being orphaned as a child, being attached to her aunt Petra, and coming into some contact with lesbianism at school. Agda recalls her childhood escapades and the carefree love affairs of her youth. Adele's was an unhappier childhood. Later, after a brief affair, she drifted into a marriage of convenience. At a Midsummer's Eve party, all three women are together and “resolve” their destinies. In the hospital, Adele delivers a stillborn child, Agda gives birth while flirting with the doctor, and Angela's baby is born after excruciating labour.
