Alla en el Rancho Grande is a landmark film in the history of Mexican cinema, for it more or less created the myth of the 'hacienda' or big ranch film, complete with colorful peasants, tough foremen, mean bosses and pretty girls involved in love affairs with a background of fiestas and music. The idea has now become a cliché but the film was hugely influential. In the year following the success of Rancho Grande, half of the Mexican films were made in the same genre.
