Iceland.1830. Agnes is the mother of a litlle girl and a servant in the house of a country sheriff. She is continually sexually harrassed by her employer. When the judge's pregnant wife goes
into labour and there's no doctor within reach, a young homeopathic doctor who, shortly
beforehand the sheriff had forbidden to practice medical arts, is called to her aid. Agnes assists
the young man, Natan and falls in love with him. The sheriff declares his love for Agnes once
more, but his wife happens to overhear him and demands that he sends her away. Natan, who
knows about the sheriff's passion for Agnes, makes her his housekeeper and lover. The sheriff
takes his revenge by threatening to punish everyone and anyone who goes to Natan for help.
