James Neubauer (Trevor Morgan)is spending the summer on the beautiful coast of Maine with his uncle Charlie (Ron Livingston), his ultra busy dad, Nathan (Ray Liotta), and his new stepmom, Mary (Catherine McCormack), whom James detests. Isolated from his father and kids his own age, James is still haunted by images of the devastating and horrific car accident that killed his mom two years before. One day while playing an imaginary game on the beach behind crazy Matty Bennett's (Vanessa Redgrave) cottage, he accidentally breaks her fence and she demands that he fix it. Fueled by Matty's gun-wielding antics and legendary stories about her, James begrudgingly accepts his responsibility. Surprisingly, they find a common ground in their ability to face, rather than bury, their grief and pain...
