John Barry in Concert

WSA Film & Music
Film and music are intertwined in all of John Barry’s works: when you hear the music of this year’s WSA Lifetime Achievement Award-recipient, you see the film rise up in front of your eyes. On 21 October the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Nicholas Dodd, brings the scores of Dances with Wolves, Out of Africa and so many more alive.

John Barry tells stories with music. With an instrument or a simple theme, he makes a character stand out. What would the James Bond theme be without the brass players? A large portion of Barry’s forty-year film music career was dedicated to composing the music for no less than eleven Bond films. These scores not only gave him name and fame, but also evoke the image of some of the best performers of the past decades. When John Barry performs in Kuipke Ghent, Shirley Bassey, Grace Jones, Tom Jones, Nancy Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and Rita Coolidge will virtually appear to the listeners.
