During the Young Critics Workshop (in collaboration with Cinea and the online film magazine photogénie) at Film Fest Gent, five aspiring film critics (ages between 18 and 26) from Belgium and from abroad write reviews and essays on our festival films.

The 22nd edition of the Flanders International Film Festival (October 10-21, 1995). Brylcream Blue Berry Hill 2 by Robbe De Hert opens the festival, Underground by Emir Kusturica closes this year's festival. The pre-opening film is Waterworld by Kevin Reynolds.

On Monday 24 October, the very last prize of the 49th edition of Film Fest Gent was handed out. The festival audience voted Mascha Halberstad's charming stop-motion film Oink as the winner of the North Sea Port Audience Award. The animated film was already the big winner at the Golden Calves in Utrecht, taking home awards for Best Film, Best Direction and Best Production Design. Oink is the official Dutch Oscar entry in the Best Animated Feature category.

The 23rd edition of the Internationaal Filmfestival van Vlaanderen - Gent runs from 8 until 19 October 1996 and opens with Shine by Australian director Scott Hicks. Mission: Impossible by Brian De Palma is the aperitif as the pre-opening.

The 24th edition of the Flanders International Film Festival runs from 7 until 18 October 1997 and opens with Chinese Box by Wayne Wang. The pre-opening film this year is The Lost World (Jurassic Park) by Steven Spielberg. The festival closes with Disney's Hercules. The focus programme zooms in on three former socialist regions: the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.

The 25th anniversary edition (from 6 until 17 October 1998) of the Flanders International Film Festival opens with Hilary and Jackie, after the pre-opening with Antz. The film that closes the festival is Mulan. There is an extra festive screening of Emir Kusturica's Yugoslavian film Black Cat, White Cat in the presence of the director especially for the anniversary of the Internationaal Filmfestival.

The 26th edition of the Internationaal Filmfestival van Vlaanderen - Gent takes place from 5 to 16 October 1999 and opens with Kadosh by Amos Gitaï, in attendance of the Israeli director himself. The closing film is Random Hearts by Sydney Pollack.

The 27th International Film Festival of Flanders-Ghent will take place this year from October 10 to 21. During this edition, music will once again take center stage. Two unique world creations are on the programme for this year's edition. Hans Zimmer will perform his creations during the opening of the festival. In addition, composer Henning Lohner will perform his new music to the 1924 classic "Orlacs Hände" by director Robert Wiene (Das Cabinett des Dr. Caligari) live during the film's projection on October 20. For the first time, this year's festival will launch a video library containing a large portion of the films selected for the program. In addition, events will be organized, such as the Belgian Day on Sunday, October 15, which will focus on Belgian cinema. Also this year, the Joseph Plateau Prizes for Belgian Film will be awarded during the Night of Cinema Musica on Tuesday, October 17. The festival also presents two exhibitions: 'Raoul Servais, portrait of a painter-cinematographer', an exhibition that introduces you to the Flemish master of animated film. Also running is 'Pat York: Masked, Uncovered & Unmasked', an exhibition of photographic work by Pat York. The opening film is House of Mirth by Terence Davies (?), the closing film is the animation film Chicken Run by Nick Park and Peter Lord.

In December, Film Fest Gent will present the Sinfonietta Cracovia Orchestra to the Belgian audience through the concert series Composers for peace, performing the music of the internationally renowned Polish composer Wojciech Kilar, the American composer and pianist Philip Glass and the Belgian composer, conductor and Film Fest Gent music director Dirk Brossé. The concert is part of the international Kilar 90 tour.
