Joseph Plateau Honorary Award for Kevin Costner

31 Aug 2009
On 11 October, the American actor Kevin Costner will receive a Joseph Plateau Honorary Award at the Ghent International Film Festival. Costner is coming to Ghent for a concert with his country band Modern West in the Handelsbeurs, an ideal opportunity, the festival thought, to present this award. The prize is the highest award of the festival. Previous luminaries to be presented with the award include Morgan Freeman, Juliette Binoche, Jeanne Moreau, Vanessa Redgrave, Robert Altman and Sydney Pollack.
Kevin Costner is known for his roles in box office hits such as Dances With Wolves, The Bodyguard, Robin Hood, JFK and The Untouchables. He is not visiting Ghent to present a film, but will be giving a unique performance with his group Modern West in the Handelsbeurs. The Hollywood icon launched his debut album, Untold Truths, last year in America - a country album with influences ranging from Bob Dylan to Daniel Lanois, the Talking Heads, Beck and even Nirvana. The group is definitely not just a whim of 53-year old Costner; he has been playing with members of Modern West for almost 20 years already. Information Kevin Costner & Modern West Sunday 11 October at 8.15 p.m. Handelsbeurs Ghent Tickets: € 45 (no discounts) via www.handelsbeurs.be www.kevincostnermodernwest.com www.myspace.com/kevincostnerandmodernwest
