Hannes has one passion in life: train timetables. Every day he pours over railway timetables in his tenement flat, working out the quickest connection from A to B. He dreams of winning the first prize at the first international competition for readers of train timetables, due to take place in the north Finnish town of Inari. He is dying to go there and show off his knowledge, but then his special leave is cancelled by Liefke, the newly-appointed head of personnel. In desperation Hannes knocks Liefke unconscious and drives off. On the train to Finland he meets a Finnish woman named Sirpa, on her way to Helsinki. What Hannes doesn't know is that his boss has been found dead and Hannes is being tracked down as the prime suspect…
