1925. Norway's capital has just changed its name, Lenin is dead and the young writer Henrik Larsen has just proposed to his girlfriend Gertrude. She refuses, at least for the time being...
With a great appetite for life, Larsen signs on as a trapper with an East Greenland hunting
company, leaving his "fiancF" behind. Larsen's stay on Greenland is a meeting with life's
extremities. It is a life in a small hut together with Holm, a scientist turned trapper and
Randbaek their vulgar and diabolical boss. Randbaek tries every trick, including his special raw
humour and his mystical powers to destroy Larsen. The stay in Greenland is a fight for
survival, a fight to keep up hunting quotas and a fight over Larsen's love for Gertrude.
