A middle-class father, Rodrigo, seeks by means of an absolute and tyrannical control over his family to shut out society and maintain his home as an oasis of feudal, Porfirian order amid the turmoil of the world beyond. Rodrigo' s stern control is disturbed when Roberto, a vacuum cleaner salesman aggressively introduces his product.
Roberto represents the upwardly mobile middle-class, the very people most despised by a Porfirian gentleman. Yet he is helpless against Roberto who not only convinces him to purchase the vacuum cleaner, but who finally also steals away his daughter.
