Emma leaves her therapy session and travels to the office to tell her partner – philandering executive Alex – that she is leaving him. Meanwhile aspiring actress Rose is having an affair, Lauren plants a surveillance device on her and listens in as Rose meets with Alex and has sex in a darkened preview theatre. Struggling cult director Lester is desperately hunting a female lead for his new production. Having unsuccessfully auditioned for the role, actress Cherine leaves the office and meets the distressed Emma. Returning to Cherine’s apartment, the two women share a kiss before Emma is disturbed by the arrival of Cherin’s boyfriend and leaves hurriedly. At Red Mullet, Alex brushes off Rose’s plea for an audition and is dragged into a meeting with enfant-terrible director Ana. Rose prepares to leave the building but is introduced to Lester, who decides that she is perfect for the lead in his movie. In a rage, Lauren storms into the building and shoots Alex. Lying wounded on the floor, he is filmed on Ana’s digital camera and receives a phone call from Emma who admits she loves him.
