A man drives his car through the city into the remote mountains. He addresses every passer-by and asks them a favour : a soldier, a theology student, an employee at the Museum for Natural History… He wants to kill himself and offers a nice sum of money to the person who buries him in the mountains. They all try to dissuade him from the idea, talking about the beauty of life, the changing seasons, the taste of a ripe cherry. Entirely unsentimentally, Kiarostami tells us a moving story on life and liberty, in a film that is built on ideas, on meticulous dialogue and which seizes the audience’s imagination.
