Taiwanese theatre group is rehearsing "Secret Love," in which Jiang, who is fatally ill, recalls a young love that he had during carefree times in Shanghai in the late 1940s. When the communists took over China in 1949, he fled to Taipei, hoping that he would soon be able to return to China. Suddenly, another theatre group appears and maintains that it has rented the stage to rehearse "Peach Blossom Land," a centuries-old farce about the dream of a utopia where people can live together in peace and harmony. Chaos ensues when the two ensembles each claim the stage for themselves...
