Isabel Amberson, a member of an important family whose husband has died, falls in love with Eugene MOrgan, whom she had earlier loved but who is despised by her family because he designs automobiles Her son George intervenes to prevent their marriage. Isabel leaves on a long voyage and George is too proud to marry Lucy, Eugene Morgan's daughter, even though he loves her. Eventually Isabel dies unhappily and George is left ruined and alone except for his aunt Fanny. He is involved in an automobile accident. In hopsital he asks Morgan for forgiveness.
