An unusual story about love, dancing and survival, set in the late '40s. Jan Mayer, a young dance-master, arrives in a sanatorium for lung diseases. He has been diagnosed with
tuberculosis. But instead of resigning himself to the debilitating sickness, Mayer resolves to
fight it, using his optimism and his dancing as his weapons. Gradually he wins over other
patients who have been accepting their fate passively in the face of strict institutional discipline.
But just when it seems that Mayer is winning his battle, the disease hits back. Mayer is shaken
but not demoralized. He will challenge death directly with a dance.
