T,O,U,C,H,I,N,Gis an intense, experimental "flicker film" that subjects the viewer to a stroboscopic barrage of solid colors and repetitive imagery. At its core is a surreal sequence of a man (poet David Franks) appearing to clip his own tongue with scissors. The soundtrack loops the word "touching" until the phonetic meaning dissolves into abstract patterns of sound. Sharits crafts a hypnotic, visceral sensory experience that explores the boundaries between pleasure and pain, and between the physical image and the retinal afterimage.
