This film marries the timeless tunes of Harold Arlen with the bittersweet story of America's lost musical treasure. An aged, Parkinon's-ridden Arlen wanders the halls of his New York apartment, reaching for long-lost faces that a guilt-ridden conscience and a cocktail of pills waft before him. As he stumbles through the corridors, the music follows his rise from an ill-educated cantor's son from Buffalo to Hollywood fame in the '30s and '40s. In his doddering, heart-tugging footsteps he remembers Anya - the love of his life and the phantom who lures his broken body on. Amid Arlen's anti-depressant-included memories and some incredible performances - a blistering rendition of Come Rain or Come shine by Sandra Bernhardt; Debbie harry's kickass Stormy Weather, Rufus Wainwright's eerie take on It's Only a Paper Moon: as well as a tear-jerking Somewhere Over The Rainbow by jazz and Jimmy Scott.
