In March 1988, 25 Iraqi planes descended on the village of Halabja, and released a deadly cargo of chemical gas, killing hundreds of Kurds. Using the incident as a departure point, this docu's examination of Kurdish culture is particularly relevant as world attention focuses on 'ethnic cleaning' in other parts of the globe.( ... ) Starting with a news photo of a dead Kurdish man holding a child in his arms, filmmakers Beatrice Michel Leuthold and Hans Stürm offer a sensitive look at Kurdish history, culture and continued persecution under Sadam Hussein.
