Revolutionaries Never Die (الثوار لا يموتون أبدًا)

Coincidences that are more than coincidences: Belgian-Palestinian filmmaker Mohanad Yaqubi has experienced it himself. At the end of 2018, he received an invitation from Jocelyne Saab to collaborate. She was a filmmaker regarded as one of the founders of modern Lebanese cinema. Was, indeed, because a few months after that invitation, Saab died. In one of her most famous documentaries, Beirut My City, she stands in front of her 150-year-old family home, which was destroyed in an Israeli attack. Yaqubi’s childhood home in Gaza was bombed by the same army in 2024. This happened just days before he was due to introduce Saab’s film at Cinematek. Because coincidences do not exist, Yaqubi decided to write a cinematic letter to Saab, Revolutionaries Never Die, focusing on her work between 1973 and 1983. The documentary is a tribute to Saab and an exploration of her films, but it also offers a portrait of the Palestinian struggle.
