Travelling with ‘Economic Airlines’, a group of American women are going on an organized tour with a schedule of one capital city per day. As soon as they arrive in Paris, they notice that the airport is exactly the same as the one they have just departed from in Rome, the roads are a carbon copy of those in Hamburg and the street-lamps bear a strange resemblance to those in New York. The similarities are such that, despite their progress from city to city, the set hasn’t changed at all. Their movements are now set in this international décor, which, far from being a figment of imagination, actually exists. Little by little they come to meet some French people. A little human warmth is generated which allows them, even if not in an authentic Parisian décor, to spend 24 hours with real Parisians … amongst whom is Mr Hulot.
