This is the fourth screen version of James M. Cain´s novel of crime and passion. It is a visually powerful depiction of the timeless story of lovers who plot to kill the woman’s older husband. The film starts abruptly. The stranger is already employed by the old man, who suspects that his wife is attracted to his employee. The husband is eventually killed and his truck driven off the road to make it look like an accident. However, the lovers are immediately suspected by the police….
