The thirty-nine-year old housewife Marianne Brunner lives with her husband Paul and their daughter Yvonne in a middle-class neighbourhood in Switzerland. Daily routine is ruling their life. Obligations are guiding through the day till the moment Marianne wins 2.9 millions swiss francs in the swiss lotto. The first hope that the money may stay a secret for friends and neighbours disappears quickly with the desire to make up for missed opportunities in life with the new richness. The presumed happiness spreads over the neighbourhood like a swelling cancer and leads the overcharged people in a diabolical circle of illusions, envy and malice.
"Instead of finding each other again at 90 degrees, husband and wife continue to drift farther apart winning the lottery. The lottery win is not the center of the film but rather the feeling that these people, having been struck by money as though by a meteor, can no longer communicate with each other. The desires and yearnings of the other family members are not respected. (Luki Frieden)
