When director Krsto Papic submitted his latest script to Jadran Film, Jugoslavia's largest production company, little did he know his project was on its way to becoming the most controversial picture in the history of Yugoslav cinema. My Uncle's Legacy tells the story of a group of students caught in the turmoil of a changing society in the early fifties. Initially Jadran Film wanted to back the film. They liked the script and had confidence in Papic. Before long the Federation of War Veterans, an organization with ties to the communist party, got hold of the script. They saw an attempt to undermine the values of their communist revolution. A fierce controversy followed. Jadran Film dropped the film, but Urania decided to take over. Finally, its premiere at the Pula Festival earlier this year was a huge success. The film received all the major awards: Papic's triumph was undeniable. (pressbook)
