Mijn vriend, of het verborgen leven van Jules Depraeter

One evening the police stop a car with a malfunctioning back light. The driver, Henri Vannoote who owns a garage, is so nervous that the gendarmes force him to open his boot. They find shares, gold, jewels and bearer bonds belonging to opera singer Lebelle, who had been robbed and whose safe deposit in the bank had been opened. Henri drove the car at the request of Jules Depraeter, a dubious businessman from Ghent. When he is questioned by the police, he causes the Ghent examining magistrate Jensens to fall down. Depraeter's false testimonies are supported by witnesses. Eventually the jury will believe his version of the story and regards Jensens as the main culprit.
