July 19th, 1936. The revolution has just started in a small town near Barcelona. Maria, a young innocent nun escaping from her convent, which is being ransacked by revolutionaries, finds refuge in a whorehouse. In the whorehouse some militia women - Libertarias - from the Free Women Organisation burst in with the mission of freeing the prostitutes. Befriended by the group, Maria will participate in the armed fight. They are on their way to the front where they would rather die standing like men, than live on their knees like servants...
