Set in the present, “Stolen Carnal Desire” is a ribald comedy about a family troupe of travelling entertainers from the tough Kawachi district of Osaka, and their adventures on tour in the countryside. The plot centres on a stage-struck young man who abandons his university studies to become the troupe’s director. During the troupe’s sojourn in a small village, one of the actors gets involved with a local woman, a village girl leaves the farm to join the chorus line, and the young director, who nurses a passion for a married woman in the company, winds up with her determined young sister-in-law. The first directorial assignment for Shohei Imamura.
