Beneath a dark winter sky, António and Jota make their way through marshes in search of ancient Roman baths. In the stillness of the Spanish landscape, long-unspoken words rise to the surface. With enchanting, painterly imagery and a contemplative flow, Azorín’s debut explores friendship, intimacy, and the delicate, often unspoken nuances of masculinity.
When the water recedes, it reveals not just stones, but forgotten stories. On a cold winter afternoon, António and Jota return from the front with their friends, searching for ancient Roman baths that have resurfaced after centuries beneath the water. They wade through the marshes of the Spanish landscape as the sky slowly darkens, discovering a place where time seems to slow and unspoken words finally rise to the surface. Jokes and memories give way to personal confessions, as the boundaries between past and present blur. With Giuseppe Truppi’s enchanting, painterly visuals and a meditative rhythm, this Spanish-Portuguese production captures the fragile beauty of friendship and the quiet fear of losing someone. Gabriel Azorín’s debut offers a fresh, sensitive exploration of masculinity and intimacy, portrayed on screen with rare subtlety.
