Julia takes place in the years leading to World War II. Lillian Hellman is an aspiring playwright, living with retired novelist Dashiell Hammett. Lillian longs to visit childhood friend Julia who is involved with espionage against the Nazis. When Lillian attains fame with the production of her first play The Little Foxes on Broadway, she is invited to a writers’ conference in Russia. Julia enlists Lillian en route to smuggle money through Nazi Germany that will assist in the anti-Fascist cause. Soon, entangled in a web, their lives are endangered. Winner of three Academy Awards and eight nominations after its release in 1977, the film, which is based on Lillian Hellman's memoirs, certainly deserves the title ''classic''.
