"Galmot was a young man who fled the Dordogne at the beginning of the century and who, after marrying an American woman and moving to South America, found his true calling in Guyana. Galmot left for Guyana in 1906 and made a fortune in the gold, sugar and rum trade. As a delegate at the French National Assembly, he would fight for equal rights against the worst sort of colonial imperialism. Tracing the course of this man's life tempted me. He fought an incredible struggle trying to improve the lot of other men. He fought against any kind of injustice and died August 6th, 1928, victim of poison, eliminated because he had foiled and angered the establishment." (Alain Maline)
