In the waters off the quiet island of Amity, a twenty-five foot Great White shark has begun to feed. The island's chief of police, Martin Brody, is only a few months on the job when the first human victim of the killer fish washes up on shore. Brody’s gut reaction is to close down the beaches, but he finds himself confronted by mayor Vaughn, reluctant to upset his constituents and lose the tourists. He wants the beach kept open at all costs. But when a little kid is taken, right in front of his mother, the hell breaks loose. With a bounty on the shark's head, amateur fishermen flock to Amity like hook-happy lemmings. With them comes Matt Hooper, a marine biologist and shark specialist. Even the eccentric but experienced Quint doesn't realise what he's stumbled into when he offers to reel in the beast for $10,000. Brody, Hooper and Quint will all get to stare death in the face.
