The film tells the story of the poet Dino
Campana, Italy's "poète maudit" and
perhaps the greatest poetic talent it has
produced in this century. The story of
his later life is taken up at the time of
the dramatic crisis caused by his
passionate relationship with the writer
Sibilla Aleramo. Shortly afterwards, in
1918, Campana was admitted to a
lunatie asylum; only thirty years old, he
was impoverished and embittered by
being rejected by the literary circles of
the time, and he was to remain an
inmate of the institution till his death in
1932.
