In That Land (В той стране)

Set In the beautiful dead of winter in an isolated rural corner of northern Russia, this film chronicles the lives of a group of villagers caught between the rituals that bind them together and the modern forces of post-Communist Russia that threaten to tear them apart. As a lethal vodka brew makes the rounds of the townsfolk, killing the odd unfortunate, the town manager fights a losing battle against alcoholism. Hampered by the fact that Moscow just doesn’t care anymore, he does his best to urge his fellow villagers to stick to the straight and narrow. They, on the other hand, see him as a combination buffoon and opportunist, using his position toi secure perks unavailable to themselves for himself and his family.
