I Want to Go Home

Director Alain Resnais Music (original) John Kander Cast Laura Benson, Adolph Green, Linda Lavin
100' - 1989 - Comedy - Format: 35mm - Dialogue: French, English
Joey Wellman, an American cartoonist, is travelling to Paris to attend an exhibition of comics artists. But in fact he is using his invitation as a pretext to search for his daughter who is studying in Paris and from whom he has had no news. As for the daughter, she lives and breathes French literature and has just finished a thesis on Flaubert, which she has vainly been trying to get a brilliant university professor and Flaubert scholar to read. The young professor also turns out to be one of Joey's most fervent admirers. If a sense of gravity often predominates Resnais' work, he also likes a good laugh. In this film he has given free run to his ebullient enthusiasm in a story that mischievously compares and contrasts French and American cultures.
