I Understand Your Displeasure (Ich verstehe Ihren Unmut)

Film has the power to reveal what usually remains unseen, including the invisible workforces of society. Heike is one of them. She has been working in the cleaning sector for 40 years. In her role as a manager, mediating daily between the company’s bosses, the clients and the staff, the pressure has increased noticeably. When dark clouds loom, Heike has to get her hands dirty in more ways than one. I Understand Your Displeasure is social realist cinema with a heart for urgent stories in the tradition of the Dardenne brothers and Ken Loach – one need only think of his similarly titled Sorry We Missed You (FFG2019). German director and co-screenwriter Kilian Armando Friedrich makes an empathetic plea for solidarity with this film, which had its world premiere in the Panorama section of the Berlinale. The non-professional lead actress, Sabine Thalau, comes from the sector herself and gives a convincing performance in her very first role.
