Though he lives in Gaza, his name is Haifa and he keeps dreaming of returning to the city of the same name. He is the local fool but there are things that only Haifa knows. He knows Abu Said, a relative and former policeman who has high hopes for the new political situation in Gaza. Oum Said's hopes rest largely on the imminent release from prison of their eldest son Said. She seeks a bride for Said to secure his future. Their youngest son, Siad, is cynical and rebellious, refusing to believe in anything, while Sabah, their 12-year-old daughter is a romantic who searches the future for whatever it may hold in store for her. And Haifa keeps wandering the streets of Gaza seeing and knowing things.
