Good Luck to You, Leo Grande

97' - 2022 - Drama, Comedy - Dialogue: English
Director: Sophie Hyde Composer: Stephen Rennicks With: Emma Thompson, Daryl McCormack, Isabella Laughland
In the profound human comedy Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, filmmaker Sophie Hyde and actress Emma Thompson explore the mystery of female pleasure.
A retired teacher who needs tutoring in bedroom studies? That's Sophie Hyde's Good Luck to You, Leo Grande in a nutshell. Previously, the Australian filmmaker showcased her talent in the light-hearted Sundance hit Animals, but there's a good chance she'll win even more hearts with this film about 55-year-old widow Nancy (Emma Thompson). After decades of falling in line, this schoolteacher discovers that she has never figured out one thing: the mysteries of her own body. To change that, she enlists the help of sex worker Leo Grande. When she meets him in a soulless hotel, a new world opens up for both of them. Here is a sex comedy that looks sexuality in a way that is as vulnerable as it is comical. Thanks to the screenplay by British comedienne Katy Brand.
"Sharply written by the multi-hyphenate English artist Katy Brand with flourishes of inventive humor, perceptive director Sophie Hyde’s bracingly sex-positive Good Luck To You, Leo Grande is a refreshing exception to typical depictions of female sexuality in mainstream film." - The Playlist
