Faust is one of the most remarkable productions in the history of the German film. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau (1888 – 1931) completed his work by the middle of 1926. At the premiere in October 1926, there were already six versions of the film and three different scores. Murnau’s original editing has recently been restored for the Filmoteca Española (in Madrid) by Spanish film historian and director Luciano Berriatùa, who has worked on it for three years. He has also succeeded in restoring the score that was written and compiled by Paul A. Hensel in 1926. The minute restoration of Murnau’s Faust by Berriatùa has already been screened on different important festivals. Stichting Film in Concert (NL) and the Flanders Film Festival – Ghent present a live performance of Faust: Film in concert in the Capitole in Ghent. The film will be accompanied by the Spanish film orchestra The Silent Band performing Paul Hensel’s original music.
