A man of wealth and apparent self possession, is a paranoiac, ruthlessly in pursuit of his desires, insanely suspicious. He seduces the fiancée of one of his friends and immediately, on their wedding night, accuses her of infidelity and libertinism. The rest of the film is taken up by a meticulous exposure of the progress of this dementia.
"It's natural for me to see and think of a situation from a sadist point of view rather than, shall we say, a neo-realist or a mystic one." (Luis Buñuel)
