He doesn't have a name at the beginning of this story. It's summer and he's driving with his wife and daughter through a small village. Although he only stops for a beer, his life is completely turned around. He sees some old men at an abandoned pier playing the dice game "18." Although he has never played the game before, he suddenly decides to join them. He plays well into the night. His wife and daughter, left behind in the rundown motel in the village, are forgotten. First thing next morning, he goes to play dice with the old men again. His wife is furious and drives their daughter back to Taipei, leaving him stranded.
