Maria lives with her husband and her bedridden father in poorly ventilated, cave-like rooms. Maria's world consists almost entirely of housework, an organised ritual of precise movements and time-scales. Sometimes she devotes herself to absurd occupations such as using her powers of telekinesis to move flies and other objects. She has no real contact with the outside world. Until, one day the telephone rings. It's the voice of her neighbour Dieter... They use some pretext to meet in his apartment. Rapidly they fall in love. A wonderful thing, but also a nightmare.
