Mari Wagner (Julie Tumler) is an eleven-year-old girl who met the elderly Maria Panacek (Inge Meysel) in a park and they became friends. Mari notices that Mrs. Panacek is wearing a black and a red stocking. The woman says that one leg is always cold and red is a warm color. It turns out that she lives in an institution because, according to many people, she is crazy. But who is really crazy and who is normal?
