This is the story of Magda’s last day alive. Bedridden and plagued by both a disappointing set of offspring and visions of Marleen, her malicious dead sister, Magda uses her final day to look back on her life, her children and her marriage. Her husband, Oscar, has allowed the house and garden to descend into chaos. Her dull son Johnny plies his trade as a security guard while her daughter Julia finds solace in her marriage to a second-rate footballer. And even now, in the midst of her musings on this, Marleen repeatedly interrupts the narrative by appearing as a vision here or in a flashback there, commenting, challenging, disapproving and blackmailing. With the assistance of her daughter Magda tries to pre-empt the allotted moment of her passing.
