A 40-year-old divorced architect is sick of his life and decides to kill himself. He has 12 hours to say goodbye to the people who have meant most to him. Thomas meets all of them in, or close to, his car.
Thomas drives his son, Emil, to school, trying to upset the boy and get him to hate his father. After dropping the upset boy at school, Thomas meets his mistress, Sarah (Maria Bonnevie, Persbrandt´s real-life partner). They quarrel, and have sex against the side of the car. Next, Thomas picks up his old friend, Jakob, driving with him through the rain. After drinking some booze in a garage, Thomas picks up Anna. Their conversation is filled with poison, but Anna still wants them to get back together again. Thomas, however, says he's agreed to let her have sole custody of Emil. By letting the audience know from the start how the picture will end, the young Danish filmmaker Simon Staho deepens and darkens the tragedy. It's the tragic story of a man who hates himself and what he has become, and who finally commits the ultimate act.
