Daddy, a retired British businessman, lives on the Riviera with his wife Miche. He has survived heart surgery, but it has only put off the fatal day by a few months. When his daughter, Caro, discovers that he is about to die, she comes over to see him from England - she is working in films there - and they spend a lot of time together. Although they have never been particularly close to one another, the circumstances revive their affection and create a complicity that strengthens the father-daughter relationship, while increasingly pushing her mother, Miche, to one side. She sits forever in the kitchen, chain-smoking and drinking Coke. He has lost all interest in her. But he is fascinated to rediscover his daughter and she, touchingly, tries to discover and draw from all the affection he never bothered to show her when she was a neglected child and he and his wife were young and glamorous.
